Cocktail parties, for example, require special types of dresses to be worn. Cocktail dresses though, may be worn at other occasions such as semi-formal events or to a prom. Cocktail dresses are usually just above the knee. Other people may also choose one that is around two inches above the ankle or what is called a ballerina length dress. This type of dress pretty much looks like an evening gown so they can also be reused for formal evening parties. Aside from the length of the dress, the type of material that the dress is made of is also important before purchasing one. The most common choices nowadays are those that are made of silk, chiffon or satin.

Cocktail dresses may also come with accessories. These should however, not be overdone and must only help accentuate your features or complement the dress.

Now, if you are not sure what types of dresses to wear, you can always check on the invitation that was given to you. Invitation cards usually give a clue as to how one should dress for the occasion. By just looking at the event that is going to happen, you can have a pretty big idea on what types of clothing to wear.
